What does 'RTA insurer' mean?
This stands for 'Road Traffic Act insurer' and it's when the policy covering your vehicle can't be used to pay for your vehicle's damage or your injury. This is usually because of a breach of terms and conditions, such as driving under the influence, or where you've allowed someone to drive your vehicle who doesn't have insurance. The insurer, though, is required by the Road Traffic Act to pay for the damage done to any other person or vehicles involved as the 'RTA insurer'. We're then entitled to recover the amount we've had to pay from you.
